What is 5G? The next generation of wireless, explained

What is 5G? The next generation of wireless explained. After every few years, the mobile and wireless industry introduce a new communication technology to transmit data more quickly & efficiently. Now already under a development is the next round of technology called 5G.

The first generation or popularly known as 1G was introduced in 90 with the start of mobile technology, it was fully analog system for transmitting voice only. With the introduction of 2G, it started transmitting voice and data digitally. Introduction of 3G made technical improvement in data transmission & data speed improved up to 200 KBPS & rollout of 4G increased the data transmission speed from KBPS to MBPS. Currently, most of the mobile phone operates on 4g & 3g network & now there are plans to get it replaced with the 5G network, a faster network that has a potential to transform the internet.

What is 5G

5G is actually a software-defined network, it means while it will not replace the cables entirely however it could replace the need for them as it would largely operating on the cloud instead. This means you will have a 100 times better capacity than 4G. how is it different? to understand it better let’s understand this with the help of an example of downloading a 2 hours movie.

But it is not only the internet speed is getting faster with the 5G network, it will also offer a great Response to our commands currently 4g network respond to our commands in 45 milliseconds in 5g it will respond in just 1 millisecond only ( 400 times faster than the blink of your eyes).

This will also help in changing the various industry, for example, self-driving cars are in needs of continuous data transfer without any delays. With the introduction of 5g technology, the faster and uninterrupted data delivery to an autonomous vehicle will enable the better, faster, safer and more reliable self-driving vehicle possible. It will also become the big enabler for the Internet of things industry where the devices are in need of reliable continuous data

5G will offer a much more personalized experience

It will enable a possibility of offering a much more personalized networking with the latest technology called network slicing. It is a way of creating a separate network slice on the cloud, allowing users to create their own whisper network, for e.g. a gamer needs a higher and better internet connectivity than a regular chat user.

Benefitting businesses

It will not just personalize the internet benefits for individuals but also helps all industries like organization can also use network slicing to provide more data availability in an area where there is higher need of data and ration remaining data in rest of the facility.

So the big question is when will we be able to use this 5G technology on our phones.

Well, the answer to this question is not any time before 2020. 5G was invented a long time back in 2010 and still, it is currently in labs for testing. It is also estimated that even by 2025 it will still remain behind the 4G & 3G users. The main problem with the mass rollout of 5G is cost. It will cost heavily to mobile operators to transit to the 5G platform. A rollout of 3G & 4G was easy for operators as it functions within the same range of frequency available with country radio spectrum. However, 5G operates at a super high frequency for which it needs a brand new infrastructure which makes it a little distant dream for users to experience 5G in near future.
